"I was using a bazooka-sized lens in the Indianapolis Motor Speedway pit lane when I felt a tap on the shoulder. I turned around and it was Paul Newman asking to look through MY camera. What a cool moment. And what a cool guy. It was good to be the photographer at that moment."
"When Danica Patrick leaves the pit lane at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, she most certainly is very aggressive with her right foot....connected to 700 horsepower. Everyone should, at least once in their lives, experience the sight, sounds, and smells of the Speedway. It is something you will never forget."
"This is the grotto of Our Lady of Guadalupe. It's very easy to be engulfed by its spirituality."
"The CEO of a beer distributorship. He looked at me like I was nuts when I told him what how I wanted to shoot the picture. But, once he noticed that I wasn't kidding, he was all about it."
"Musician Cathy Morris was so nice to let me shoot her in a recording session. She completely becomes a part of the music that she's creating, whether it is in a studio or during a live performance."
"Dr. Gadol showed me three different operating rooms to shoot his picture and we shot in all three of them. Each with different light set-ups. I kept thinking that surely he was going to run out of operating rooms to take me too-LOL He was as much into making a nice image of him as I was."
"He investigates decades old insurance policies to see if they may still be valid. I remember we were shooting him underneath the City Market in Indianapolis and there was a leaking hot water pipe. The humidity in there must have been near 100%. After thirty minutes we were drenched in sweat."
"Driver introductions for NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Seldom will you ever see him without a crowd of media, fans, or his pr peeps around him."
"Hillary Clinton waves to supporters prior to an Indianapolis speech. About 20 minutes after she spoke, then-Senator Barak Obama spoke. The massive flag in the behind here was also the same one in the shot of Obama with his eyes closed which is also on this homepage. Same background but two entirely different looks."
"Sarah Palin at a campaign rally. The advance planning committee had severely underestimated the size of the crowd and the amount of metal detectors needed pushing the start time back at least 45 minutes just to get everyone into the arena"
The Beijing Olympic gold medals of basketball player Tamika Catchings. I was struck by how tattered the ribbon holding the medals had become from of the all of the people that have touched them since those games. The ribbons actually were fragile in comparison to the strength of the actual medals. Quite a contrast.
Seven-time Formula One World Champion Michael Schumacher looking into the mirrors of his Ferrari. The week before the U.S. Grand Prix he vacationed with his family and rode his motorcycle in the western United States. Because of his world-wide fame, he would be mobbed by adoring fans in Europe. Here in the U.S., few people would recognize him so he enjoys more anonymity.
"Then-Senator Barak Obama takes a moment to soak it all in during a campaign stop just 20 minutes after Hillary Clinton spoke."
"Valentino Rossi accelerates onto the main straightaway at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. World champion Rossi seemed to be dealing with the wet conditions quite well. I, on the other hand, had more than my hands full trying to stay dry, keep warm in the wet chill, protect the camera's from the near-sideways falling rain, and, oh yes, actually take pictures."
"The mind behind the science."
"FedEx planes lined up in the afternoon waiting to be loaded from their Indianapolis hub."
Especially in South Texas, some nice cool drinks for a summer afternoon.
"I love to shoot pictures of Sushi. Sushi chefs are always so very creative with the way the food looks. The imaginative plating photographs so well every time."
"This is all about stress relief. That's great friend of mine, photographer Pat Cocciadeferro karting at the New Castle Motorsports Park. That little go-kart can hit speeds of over 100mph and demands every bit of your attention when driving it. It's a thrilling way to spend the day and I would recommend it to everyone."
"This is Maggie Lee, owner of Naked Tchop stix and the noodles she's becoming famous for."
South Texas guitar slinger Ruben V
